Since 1970, TroyGould has been a nationally and internationally recognized law firm for business. We’ve built an innovative mid-size firm that understands what is important to business leaders and how to deliver it. We represent many public as well as privately held companies that range from start-ups to middle-market and “Fortune 500” companies. Our clients also include lenders, investors and senior corporate executives.
We meet our clients’ day-to-day general business and litigation needs, while also handling specialized matters involving securities, intellectual property, financial services, tax and real estate law. We have a substantial life sciences practice representing an array of emerging and established pharmaceutical, biotechnology and medical device companies. Our firm also represents some of the largest financial institutions in the country in connection with their equipment leasing activities and loan workouts, and companies that are combining entertainment or multimedia applications with high technology frequently seek our counsel.
Clients rely on our help anywhere they do business around the world, with our global reach enabled by our affiliation with two outstanding major international law firm networks. Our international practice includes many in-bound and outbound transactions, including raising capital for Chinese companies.
We have developed a reputation for excellence uncommon for a mid-size firm. U.S. News and World Report has recognized TroyGould as a premier corporate law firm, designating us as a 2015 Tier 1 “Best Law Firm” in Corporate Law, Insurance Law, and Mergers and Acquisitions Law in the Los Angeles area. Moreover, TG attorneys regularly contribute authorship to the California Regents’ Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) publications, including Forming and Operating Limited Liability Companies and Counseling California Corporations. Both of these titles have become standard desk reference works reflecting the firm’s extensive transactional and litigation expertise in the complex and challenging area of corporate governance.
Such a range of experience is unusual for a firm our size, but it means we can provide the best of big firm capabilities and excellence with small firm responsiveness. Many clients find that we are substantially more cost effective than larger national firms, while providing more senior-level attention than such firms.
“Star power” carries weight in any profession, and the lawyers of TroyGould have the kind of professional recognition you expect from a leading business law firm. Fifteen of our senior lawyers are rated AV® Preeminent™ 5.0 out of 5 by Martindale-Hubbell, whose ratings reflect the confidential opinions of members of the Bar and the Judiciary. These ratings speak to a lawyer’s ethics and professional and legal ability.
Several of our attorneys have been selected for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, the country’s most prestigious peer review publication, and one was recently named “Los Angeles Securities Regulation Lawyer of the Year.” Many of our attorneys have been named Southern California “Super Lawyers” (selected by their peers as being in the top 5% of Los Angeles and Orange County lawyers).
Our firm began in 1970 with a strong focus on corporate and securities work. Our corporate practice is still the firm’s largest, but today it is part of a comprehensive business law and litigation capability that can meet the specialized needs of emerging, middle-market or global companies. With our quick response time and innovative use of technology, we provide clients with real value in the way we resolve controversies and get deals done.
We combine the capabilities of a full-practice business law firm with the intimacy of an organization where everyone can still gather in the same (large) conference room. We’ve chosen to be the size we are because it’s best for us, and for our clients. You’ll work with lawyers you know and like, and who can get the job done because they are recognized leaders at what they do.
We give you the realistic, objective advice and counsel you need, not what you would like to hear. Pick up the phone and call us any time, whether you need a quick answer to an everyday problem or a comprehensive strategy to resolve a major transaction or dispute. Either way you get tenacious dedication, an urgency that matches your own, and a real understanding of what you need and how to achieve it.
We have an insider’s perspective on the Southern California business and legal communities that’s reflected in our access to financial markets and our ability to try complex cases in courts where we are known and respected.
We are collegial members of every client’s team, with an informal and open-door approach that reflects California’s down-to-earth business style.
We understand that nobody looks forward to paying the bill for legal services. That’s why we give you real value – which we define as solutions for your needs – and don’t just think in terms of billable hours. We never overstaff a matter, and will work with you to find the best way for budgeting and controlling your legal costs.
In a phrase that’s out of fashion at many other law firms, we serve our clients as business counselors. Our lawyers are committed to the excellence that comes from wisdom, and we believe that wisdom is the product of experience and training, not the result of grinding out hours.
We treat each other, and our clients, with respect. We work as a team, and our clients are a part of that team. Working in teamwork together, we believe in camaraderie and open communication, in total quality and absolute integrity, in trust and loyalty. The result is that TroyGould clients, attorneys and staff build long-lasting relationships with each other. That means we can take a long-term view toward success and opportunity, and build together with our clients in ways that make both of them last.
Since Joe Troy founded our firm in 1970, TroyGould has offered an enviable workplace where each individual’s contributions are integral and respected, and where a challenging, rewarding practice awaits the few who share our dedication to both professional excellence and a quality of life.
TroyGould regards each hiring decision as an investment in the firm’s future. We provide many opportunities for career growth, with salaries approaching the top of the market, and realistic opportunities for membership. In return, we believe in recruiting outstanding lawyers who are committed to their practice, to the Firm and to their community.
The Firm’s philosophy can best be summed up by one of Joe’s favorite quotes:
As respected professionals, lawyers deserve time for their families and friends, for community activities, for sports and travel, and for the pursuit of their intellectual interests. Quality of work and quality of life are more important than the number of hours worked. Excellence comes from wisdom, and that wisdom is the product of life experience and training, not the result of grinding out hours. Joseph F. Troy
TroyGould associates assume significant professional responsibilities much earlier than their colleagues at other law firms. We carefully select and work closely alongside our junior associates, training them to practice at the top of their respective fields. As a result, our younger attorneys typically find themselves successfully litigating against or negotiating transactions with more experienced counsel from other well-known and formidable firms.
We strongly encourage direct contact between associates and our clients, and we support our attorneys in their efforts to develop their own practices through community outreach, bar associations, publications and other networking opportunities.
We work hard and have fun doing it. Our collegial environment encourages long-lasting relationships, with each other and with our clients.
We celebrate events in our firm regularly. TroyGould is “family,” which is why our employees stay with us and we enjoy coming to work each day.
TroyGould has an extraordinary track record in retaining employees at all levels. Nevertheless, we are always interested in receiving resumes from qualified attorneys and others interested in working with us.
